As well, fastened with a paper clip to front endpaper is the typed letter signed, as seen in photo. Save for rust from the paperclip, contents clean and unmarked. Binding is sound.

432 pages, plus plates. Publisher's decorative cloth sunned. Professionally rebacked with head and tail reinforced. Binding is sound; contents clean but for foxing to plates. In this copy the frontispiece and "Magical Combinations" plates were not bound in. They are called for in the List of Illustrations, and are present in the 1871 edition. I don't know whether they were dropped from the 1872 issue, or whether this copy is simply lacking them. The foxing on the title page is mirrored on the verso of front endpaper, so it appears that the frontis was not originally bound in.
